Considerable research prior to further DNA investigation suggests that Mckean family (aka Mackeane, MacIan, MacEan, Mackean, MacKane etc) were a sept of the Clann MacDonalds in the central Southwestern Highlands bordering on the eastern edge of the Argylle and Bute. More recent DNA research suggest the origin seems to have evolved from the Clann Mhic Eain located in Mid Argyll. Is there any evidence that perhaps links the two families?
